On December 14th, 1948, Romania and India established diplomatic relations, which have greatly progressed in the time since, today reaching the level of an extended partnership. During the 70 years of Romania-India relations, there have been numerous bilateral visits at presidential, ministerial or parliamentary level, including the recent visit in India of the Romanian Minister of Foreign Affairs, in November 2018.

In 1974, the two countries established the Mixed governmental commission for economic cooperation between Romania and India, whose 18th session took place in New Delhi, in 2017. The level of bilateral commerce between Romania and India has reached $600 million and there is still a huge potential to develop commercial ties and bilateral investments. Indian companies present in Romania employ more than 10.000 Romanians, while growing their local presence.

On December 13th, on the occasion of the celebration of 70 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Romania and India, the Romanian Diplomatic Institute (IDR) and the Romanian Institute for the Study of the Asia-Pacific (RISAP) will organize a public conference that will discuss the evolution and state of bilateral relations, but also their potential for future development, especially in the economic field.
